Travelling to Paris with kids

June 15, 2012 / by Donald

As Paris is full of attractions for all ages, it is natural to assume that once the family arrives there will be things for the kids to do and see.  Advance planning a trip to Paris with the kids will save time and effort on arrival.  As many of the attractions for kids in Paris are unique, the whole family will enjoy kids’ activities in this exotic city.

The Jardin des Tuileries is conveniently located in the central area of Paris.  This garden has been a place for recreation since the seventeenth century.  Parents can enjoy the fountains and sculptures while the kids enjoy the pony rides, lemonade and ice cream at the kiosks.

For older children, Les-Catacombs is an interesting experience.  Les-Catacombs is an underground cemetery, in use since the 18th century.  The idea of burying the dead in underground chambers was the result of overcrowding of existing cemeteries near popular churches.  The long dark tunnels were used as a cemetery by the French resistance in World War II.

The Museum of Magic features exhibitions of the tools of the trade of magic.  The family can view magicians’ props, optical illusions and antique magic show posters.  The museum is housed in an underground cellar, which adds to the atmosphere.

The Musee des Arts Decoratifs houses a huge collection of vintage toys.  Adults can enjoy the collections of furniture, carpets, paintings and many other fascinating objects.  When you buy a ticket to The Musee des Arts Decoratifs, you are also allowed entry to the Publicity Museum and the Fashion and Textile Museum, both of which are close by.

If you are in the mood for more traditional children’s attractions, Paris has a Disneyland.  This is actually more of a holiday resort than a theme park as it features hotels and shopping complexes.  To round off a family trip to Paris, adults and kids will definitely enjoy the Eiffel Tower.
