If you have a young family, it is likely that you have not thought of taking them on a cruise. However, many of the newer liners operating now have a very family friendly approach, so why not take a look?
The advantages cruises for family holidays are plentiful. The novelty of sleeping, eating and playing on a boat is likely to appeal to many a child, and liners today usually offer a wealth of activities for them, from swimming, cinema rooms, gyms, rock climbing walls and ice skating rinks. Many offer a variety of childcare options for all ages, so parents can get a break too; though it is worth checking they will accept very little ones, as some start at age 3.
Interconnecting rooms are usually available – though these will be at the upper end of the price brackets -as well as cots and babysitting services. The relaxed nature of dining on many liners will appeal to families who can eat when they like, and the all-inclusive prices mean hungry and thirsty children can always be catered for. Often, a special children’s tea is laid on where parents can either dine too, or return later for their own meal.
Of course, for many, one of the major appeals of a cruise holiday will be the opportunity to visit a number of new destinations. Virgin Holidays, for example, offer a family cruise around the Med, stopping at Barcelona, Naples and Livorno amongst other places, enabling families to combine a fun filled cruise with some history and even education.
